Slough For Youth - Youth Voice Opportunities

Young People’s Service offers a wide range of opportunities for young people to get involved in influencing local services and decisions in the town.

Outlined below are just some of the opportunities that are on offer, please contact us if you would like to get involved.

Slough Youth Parliament

As a Youth Parliament member, you will have the opportunity to represent the views of young people within Slough and influence key decisions, policies and strategies within Slough on issues such as; community safety,  leisure, health and transport by being a part of both council strategic boards and external partners. Any young person aged between 11 and 19, living in Slough can nominate themselves to stand as a candidate for elections in their school/academy or college.

Young Inspectors

As a Young Inspector, you will visit a range of services for young people including job clubs, advice sessions, schools, libraries, young people’s accommodation, health services and youth activities. As part of a team, you will carry out an inspection by looking at the building and equipment, talking to staff and most importantly young people. You then report back on how effective the provision is in delivering a quality service and making a difference to young people. Young Inspectors regularly carry out inspections across the town.

Young Commissioners

As a Young Commissioner, you will join a group of young people and work alongside Slough Borough Council to help decide how to best spend money to make a difference to the lives of young people in Slough. You will review organisations that bid for contracts, attend meetings to analyse needs and track the progress of existing projects and services. Young Commissioners get involved in commissioning when the need arises.

The Youth Voice Team is often approached to recruit young people to contribute to local consultations. If you can’t commit to regular meetings, but want to have your say, joining our ‘consultation group’ may be for you. You may like to contribute to consultations that are around a topic that particularly interests you. When asked to contribute to consultations we’ll contact you on an ad hoc basis to see if you want to get involved.

Support your Member of Youth Parliament (MYP)

Keep in touch with your school’s MYP, who can feed in your views to the Youth Parliament. Ask your MYP how they will ensure all young people’s views are taken into account.
