The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families is a children’s mental health charity with over 60 years’ experience of caring for young minds. Our vision is a world in which children and their families are effectively supported to build on their own strengths to achieve their goals in life.

We provide a range of specialist types for support for children, young people and families, seeing them at the Centre, in schools and other settings. In addition to our direct work, we provide resources to other professionals to be more effective in their work. The overarching aim of our services is to build resilience and to help children, young people and families who are in distress.

The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families offers a range of specialist treatments and assessments and for children, young people and families.  The service is made-up of highly experienced clinicians from a wide range of disciplines in including Clinical Psychology, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, Psychiatry, Play Therapy, Social Work and Family Therapy (for more info on disciplines please click here).

Looking for help: Young people

What we do - We all go through periods in our life when we feel sad, anxious or stressed.  When these feelings start to get in the way of our daily life or impact upon our relationships with the people around we may need some extra support.  Knowing how or who to ask for help can be hard, but it’s important that we don’t keep these feeling to ourselves. The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families provides therapy services for young people aged 12 – 18 years. We have team of friendly and professionally trained clinical staff with years of experience helping with a range of problems.

Who we help - We provide a range of different types of support for children, young people, parents and their families. These include:

  • Low mood or depression
  • Difficulty managing your thoughts, feelings or behaviour
  • Distressing or traumatic events
  • Experience of abuse
  • Struggling with family or peer relationships
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Self-harm 

For Professionals - Schools in Mind

Schools in Mind is a free network for school staff and allied professionals which shares practical, academic and clinical expertise regarding the wellbeing and mental health issues that affect schools. The network provides a trusted source of up-to-date and accessible information and resources that school leaders, teachers and support staff can use to support the mental health and wellbeing of the children and young people in their care.
