Special Educational Needs Policy

In accordance with our admission policy, we are commited to provide a childcare place for each unique child and their individual need. The setting values its parent partnership and also works closely with outside professionals, to enable us to meet the child's specific need.

Teaching and Learning

Our curriculum is based on the unique child. Our starting point for planning is observation and the child's preferred interest. Staff have in-house EYFS training, which enables them to support and extend childrens learning. Each child has a record of summative progress report, which clearly highlights childrens abilities as well as the support needed for their future development. The framework by the Department for education and early education to support and enhance childrens learning and development holistically through play based activities is promoted through daily activities and evaluations.

Identifying and Assessing Special Educational Needs

We work closely with the parent/carers and the relevant professionals to establish the individual childs need and to secure any actions that may be required. Individual educational plans are provided for children with an additional need, which highlights the focus target and is shared with parent/carers and other professionals.

Involving Parents and Children and Young People in Planning and Reviewing Progress

We pride ourselves on our excellent parent partnership. We hold termly parent evenings. We send out questionnaires to our parents to involve them and enable them to give feedback to us.We involve parents in our learning journeys, baselone assessments, summative reports and IEP (individual education plans)

Additional Support

There are two in-house Sencos  in the setting. They work closely with the parents and multi-agency professionals to ensure that every child is supported.

Extra Activities

We have a large play gym , available for all children and a weekly swimming lesson and dance lesson for preschool children.

Meeting the Social and Emotional Needs of Children and Young People with SEN

We are highly experienced and trained in supporting children and young people with SEN. We use puppets to support children to express their social and emotional needs.

Keeping Up to Date with Knowledge and Skills

We have our own in-house training and also attend training with Slough Borough Council. Our Early Years Advisors keep us well informed and up-to-date of relevant changes and legislation. All staff are qualified and also hold certificates in mandatory requirements, such as first aid, health and safety fire awareness and food hygiene. The manager holds a BA Hons in early years and three senior members of staff have level 5 in early years. The setting has been graded as Outstanding in all aspects by Ofsted.

Transitions

The key workers work closely together and with the parents during all transitions. The transitions that take place internally are closely supervised by the senior staff. Parents are introduced by the key person to the new room, new key person  and staff members. For children entering the setting externally, a baseline assessment will be completed with the new parents. Internal transitions are completed over a three week period. New children are offered up to two weeks worth of visiting sessions, for an hour or two per day, free of charge.
