British Kidney Patient Association

BKPA is the UK's leading kidney patient support charity, providing practical, financial and emotional support for kidney patients and their families and campaigning to improve care services across the UK.

Patient Welfare Grants

Patients who are struggling financially can apply to BKPA for personal grants with the help of a health professional.

Support, Advice and Guidance

  • We have lots of information for patients or maybe it's more about needing someone to listen.
  • Our trained Advocacy Officers are ready to help with local issues around treatment choice, patient transport and benefit concerns.
  • Our counselling support team offers free telephone counselling from Monday-Thursday on Tel 01420 541424

Holidays and respite breaks

We provide grants for those unable to fund a holiday or short break away from the monotony of kidney disease, as well as supporting Dialysis Swap - a UK scheme to help patients find dialysis away from base.

Supporting Kidney Units

We work hard to make a difference to health services and patient care. Our hospital grants fund essential psyco-social staff as well as improving facilities and care.

Patient-centred research

In partnership with the British Renal Society we fund patient-centred research that will make a practical difference to care in hospitals in the short term.

We work at a national and government level to improve health and care services for kidney patients. Everything we do is about ensuring that the patient voice is at the heart of national decision-makings. We have a Patient Advisory Group which actively supports us in all our work.
